For those who don’t know me, I’m Andrew. I grew up moving around a lot, but I consider myself as being from Seattle. Thanks to my parents, my brothers and I spent a lot of time in a car on road trips. I LOVE being on the road. Although I don’t remember these road trips myself, I’m positive that they have left a lasting impact in me. My dad taught me how to read road maps at a young age and he taught me how to drive long distances as soon as I got my license. While living in Indiana, my family drove up to Maine, down to Florida, and all the way west to California. I’ve been in all but 3 states (Alaska, North Dakota, and Vermont) and I’ve driven coast to coast (U.S.) on my own.

Recently, I learned about something called overlanding. Overland Journal defines overlanding as “self-reliant adventure travel to remote destinations where the journey is the primary goal.” Overlanding captured my interest immediately. My main inspiration for overlanding is Expedition Overland, a team of overland travelers that have explored much of North America, drove up to Alaska and the Yukon, and down to the southern tip of Central America. Check out their YouTube channel for their show. Other examples of overlanding can be found in shows such as Long Way Round, Long Way Down, and special episodes of Top Gear. I’m also currently reading a book (also a blog) called Drive Nacho Drive, about a couple who quit their jobs and hit the road in their Volkswagen Vanagon to travel the world. They have some pretty cool stories. Seeing and reading about all these people and their stories of adventure gave me the itch to find adventure in my life as well.

I’m starting this blog because I bought my very own adventure car! A 2002 Nissan Xterra to be exact. I figured that blogging would be a cool way to share my adventures with my friends and also give me a reason to take pictures and write. I have concerns that the contents of this blog might not be “adventurous” enough. I don’t live a very extreme lifestyle after all. But everyone’s life is significant and meaningful, and based on that fact, everyone’s life is full of adventure.

Thank you for reading my blog, and join with me on my Xterra based adventures!
